Ransomware

Ransomware

Today, Karin Wefald will be presenting a tech talk on Ransomware. Ransomware is a type of malware that can be covertly installed on a computer without knowledge or intention of the user that restricts access to the infected computer system in some way and demands that the user pay a ransom to the malware operators to remove the restriction. In 2015, ransomware cost $325M globally across hundreds of thousands of infected computers. While certain instances of this malware are difficult to avoid, users can follow the same basic steps used to avoid most viruses: not opening emails that come from unrecognized senders, are not personalized, or demand immediate or time-sensitive actions.
