LIMS & E-Commerce
Quoin supported the reengineering of a Laboratory Information Management System and supporting e-commerce website. We continue to provide assistance on technologies, architecture, and implementation of new system features.
Clinical Data Appliance
To support a cardiovascular test developed by BG Medicine, Quoin implemented a network-based application using Java and a rules framework to retrieve, score specific clinical patient data, and generate a result to predict adverse patient outcomes. The project objective was to build an easily-deployed software and hardware solution that can access patient data, apply rules-based calculations, and provide the resulting index value as a new result for a patient's medical records.
A principal consultant from Quoin conducted an audit of the firm's knowledge management practices and provided detailed recommendations on processes, staffing, and training.
Social Media Campaign
We designed and built a social media website for a political campaign. Our project team worked closely with CHAPA to rapidly deliver a sophisticated and engaging site to support a state-wide ballot referendum. The website featured a series of video testimonials from families that benefited from affordable housing programs.
Digital Learning Platform
Quoin provided engineering leadership and multiple project teams for the MindTap digital learning platform. Our long-term collaboration delivered specialized applications and facilitated the adoption of agile development at Cengage Learning.
Enterprise Development & Support
Our technologists supported a range of web, mobile, and enterprise development projects for this regional telecommunications and home security provider. Over a long-term relationship, Quoin was responsible for critical systems including Customer Support, Customer Self-service, Billing, Retail Point of Sale, Customer Email, and others.
Digital Training Platform
Our project team was responsible for the comprehensive development of an e-learning and digital training delivery platform. We collaborated with the client on product concept, requirements, design, and architecture to define the system. The Quoin project team then implemented this approach to deliver a robust and extensible platform. Key features of the platform included support for student administration, assessments, and progress monitoring.
Customer Management System
Quoin led a project team through an intensive year-long effort to support online customer and account management at a major utility. The project was instrumental in the deregulation of power generation and distribution in the region, and it enabled retail and commercial customers to choose providers. The key challenge for the project team was to create an architecture for the heterogenous environment of legacy and new systems and to provide accurate and timely account information to consumers.
Quoin was responsible for the design and implementation of a Segmentation Engine to drive the presentation of personalized health care offers. Our team built a big data solution using an innovative architecture based on Scala, Apache Storm, Spark, and HBase.
Jahia CMS & Website
Quoin designed and built a new corporate website and supporting Jahia Enterprise Content Management System. Our project team was responsible for design, implementation, content migration, and testing of this flagship site. We worked closely with the customer to meet an aggressive development schedule and support an upcoming industry conference.
Hotel Booking E-Commerce
Quoin collaborated with a start-up company to build an online booking service for luxury hotels. Our project team participated in the specification of requirements and user-experience of the website. We were responsible for all phases of development - implementation, testing, integration with back-end booking service, and deployment - and helped Five Star Alliance go from concept to launch in 12 weeks.
Account Management Applications
Quoin built a series of applications for General Motors OnStar from 2001 - 2005. Our work focused on the implementation of sophisticated features for account management and delivery of onboard services to OnStar customers. We provided dedicated projects teams that were responsible for project management, architecture, implementation, and testing. Quoin won the 2004 General Motors CIO's Award in recognition of an application delivered with zero defects in UAT and production.
Quoin built a new application for author and agent royalties, as part of an B2B e-commerce portal for Hachette Book Group. Our work ensured the correct and timely delivery of royalty statements to agents, which is an important contractual obligation for this leading global publisher. For this project, we utilized a modern web application architecture, including Django and mySQL.
Student Finance Portal
Quoin implemented a web-based system that provides a comprehensive view of student finances for Harvard University, including grants, loans, work-study income, and tuition. The objective was to provide a simple, but complete perspective for a student. Our project team worked with stakeholders from the 13 separate schools and programs at Harvard to deliver the application on-time and on-budget.
Multi-site Content Publishing
Quoin built a custom content management system to support a demanding editorial workflow and multi-site publishing. Our project team was responsible for defining the architecture and implementing the system using open source frameworks, including the automated migration of over 200,000 pages of content. The new system provided significant improvement in throughput and editorial productivity.
Jahia CMS & Website
Quoin built new e-commerce websites and supporting Jahia Enterprise Content Manage System to support different imprints for this leading educational publisher.
Working in partnership with the Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC), Quoin built a web-based platform for collaboration on standards and technologies for the emerging Internet of Things sector.
Technology & Operations Audit
Electus Digital (CollegeHumor Media) was grappling with rapid growth in traffic, and turned to Quoin to assess the infrastructure and operations. Our principal consultant performed a hands-on evaluation of the platform, and provided detailed recommendations to improve robustness, availability, and performance.
PII Redaction Tool
The IRS wanted to analyze important customer comments submitted via their website. This presented a complex problem as the IRS needed to ensure that clients who upload comments are never at risk of divulging Personally Identifying Information, or PII. Using a custom grammar, Quoin built an application to parse and redact all PII. Information is then available for content analysis and metrics.
Knowledge Management System
Quoin built a sophisticated knowledge management system for a leading global consulting firm. Our project team created a system architecture that ensured easy capture of project documents, use of multiple controlled vocabularies and taxonomies, efficient search, and features for 'communities of practice'. The application was used by L.E.K staff world-wide to improve collaboration and retention for client projects.
Social Gaming Platform
Our project team built a robust platform to support social and community features for a successful gaming website. We worked closely with the client to integrate the platform, including a sophisticated moderation system, with the operational website.
Software Configuration Management
Quoin defined a strategy for software configuration management for MTV Networks, including source control, change management, and release management policies. The resulting approach supports a range of operational requirements - diverse development platforms, legacy content management system, non-technical users, and on demand and weekly release cycles. We were able to rapidly understand a range of organizational and technical requirements and to define a comprehensive approach.
Identity & Engagement Platform
Quoin was responsible for the development of a sophisticated membership platform and other features for an active online community. The Identify and Engagement platform rapidly reached a milestone of more than 1 million registered members. Our dedicated project teams continue to support the enhancement of the platform and other member-oriented features.
Contest Management Site
Quoin built a sophisticated site to support the National Geographic Society 'Geography Bee' program. This focused development effort required our dedicated project team to build a complete platform, including registration, invoicing, check/credit card processing, analytics, and supporting an administration site. We delivered the site on time, accommodating significant changes in the project scope that were required by the client.
Advertising Management System
Quoin built a web-based advertising order management system that is used by state press associations and several thousand newspapers nationwide. Our dedicated engineering support team continues to support and enhance this critical system for distributing ads to media outlets.
Quoin led an effort for the Pew Research Center on requirements analysis and technology selection of a CRM system. Our principal consultant conducted stakeholder interviews, defined a structured requirement list, evaluated candidate open source and SaaS applications, and presented our recommendation to executive leadership.
Media Monitoring & Analytics
Quoin led the development of a sophisticated platform for media monitoring and analytics. Our project team was responsible for technology selection, system architecture, and initial implementation of the system, which emphasizes high-performance delivery of analyzed content and metrics. We have continued to support the development of the platform and services, including use of mobile app and mobile web clients, as well as the evolution of the core architecture.
End-User Support & Maintenance
Quoin provides continuing support for end-users and maintenance for a desktop application vital in the delivery of humanitarian services.
Quoin has a long-term relationship with this leading educational publisher and has supported critical development initiatives for e-commerce, education, and online products groups. We were responsible for re-engineering the client's product catalog, which is used throughout the enterprise to deliver timely and accurate information on the print and digital books available through Scholastic channels.
Lexus Eco-Challenge Website
Quoin developed an engaging website to support the Lexus Eco Challenge, which enables teachers and students in grade 6 through 12 to participate in community-oriented projects focused on improving our environment.
Quoin provides the dedicated support and development team behind TripTuner – an online tool that inspires travel. We also work closely with this innovative startup on product strategy, architecture, technology selection, as well as day-to-day support and implementation of new features.
Jahia CMS & Website
We provide ongoing development and operational support for global communications initiatives and the UNFPA website. Our dedicated project team supports day-to-day use of the Jahia Enterprise Content Management System, including development of new content modules and interactive features.
Incident Reporting & Service Delivery System
Quoin is leading the implementation of a global incident reporting and humanitarian services delivery platform for UNICEF. The system will be web-based and provide a robust and secure infrastructure for the decentralized data collection in humanitarian situations. The extensible, modular architecture will be built in Ruby on Rails and incorporate open source frameworks for data collection.

We built a new corporate e-commerce website and supporting Jahia Enterprise Content Management System. Our project team worked closely with the client to create a significantly improved user-experience for configuring complex power conversion components.
Website & CMS
Quoin implemented a new website and supporting enterprise CMS for Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC), a water utility serving the needs of the D.C. metropolitan area. Our team implemented an architecture to best accommodate the client's environment - including support for a WebSphere application server and integration of an Oracle database. The platform supports standard CMS functions, as well as user registration and Single Sign-On (SSO).
Quoin built a sophisticated and robust platform for content delivery for one of the most-visited news sites on the web. Our project team was responsible for architecture and implementation of a system that supported over 200 million page-views per month. We worked closely with operations staff for seamless deployment and operations of this critical component to manage the WashingtonPost.com's content.
Web, Facebook, iPad App
Quoin developed an integrated website, Facebook, and iOS applications that provide online learning challenges for kids and parents. Our team was responsible for implementation, integration, and testing these applications, as the customer refined the product concept and requirements.
